Bulgaria: Harman Kaya,sanctuaries in 7-meter long, small natural cave. The earliest ceramic fragments date from the late Chalcolithic period and the latest from the 1st and 2nd c. CE. The entrance to the cave could be closed with a door as the threshold and grooves are still recognizable in the rocks. The two terraces hewn in the rocks outside the cave, one being circular, indicated the site had an astonomical purpose.The remains of the biggest ancient Thracian city which had its flowering between the 6th and 1st cenury BCE lies below this sanctuary. Perperikon,Neolithic Rock sanctuary.The earliest traces of human civilisation discovered so far at Perperikon were dated to the late Neolithic Period, 6th-5th millennium BCE. During the late Bronze Age in particular, 18th-12th century BCE, Perperikon saw its first heyday. "Kaya basha" is one of the most imposing megalithic monuments in the Bulgaria. For its precise dating is still disputing, because there are found materials from various eras. The complex consists of an ancient pagan temple and a medieval fortress. The central and highest place of the rocky peak, takes a grave with the east-west orientation, chipped in solid rock carved like a truncated pyramid. On the south side of the magnificent rock is carved a similar tomb, located in the hemispherical recess. The niche is covered with arched carved in stone vault. To the two graves leads carved into the rocks ceremonial staircase, consisting of eight steps.In the winter solstice, as the rising sun has to come within the "sights" of a special rock crevice. For it suggests the form of the highest part of the megalith - rebated semicircle resembling a rising sun. #archeology #megaliths #ancient #history
